Pharmaceuticals

Packaging materials for pharmaceuticals are not regulated in Europe specifically. Pharmaceuticals as such are regulated by European Pharmacopeia. Contributions from the packaging, i.e. extractables and related leachable are investigated in detail depending on the rout of application during the whole shelf life of the product. In practice, safety assessment of packaging materials for oral pharmaceuticals follows food contact materials regulation.
