Food contact materials

Food contact materials are regulated in Europe based on positive lists of substances which can be used for manufacturing of the final products. Listing of substances and their use to manufacture final products may be associated with restrictions regarding their migration to drinking water.

According to Annex V of Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 and the Migration Modelling Guideline of the Joint Research Centre (JRC), application of migration modelling is acceptable as an alternative to experimental migration testing. Migration modelling is considered as a screening approach, i.e. a procedure which is by definition more sever compared to the regulated testing procedures.
